Check these simple settings to get your reminders back
This guide walks you through the most common settings to check. It should only take around 5–10 minutes.
Before You Start
This guide covers the most common causes of missing Teams reminders. Depending on your device or organisation’s IT settings, the steps may vary slightly.
✅ Step 1: Check Windows Notifications
Go to: Settings → System → Notifications
Make sure:
- Notifications are turned On
- Microsoft Outlook is turned On
- Microsoft Teams is turned On
- Show notification banners is enabled
- Show notifications in Notification Centre is enabled
- Play a sound is enabled
✅ Step 2: Check Do Not Disturb
Go to: Settings → System → Notifications → Do Not Disturb
Make sure it is turned Off.
Also check whether Windows is automatically enabling Do Not Disturb during presentations or when using full-screen apps.
✅ Step 3: Check Your Teams Status
If your Teams status is set to Do Not Disturb, reminder notifications may be hidden.
Changing your status back to Available can restore meeting alerts.
✅ Step 4: Check Outlook Reminder Settings
Classic Outlook
Go to: File → Options → Advanced
Under Reminders, make sure:
- ✔ Show reminders
- ✔ Play reminder sound
New Outlook
Go to: Settings ⚙ → General → Notifications
Turn on:
- Calendar notifications
- Reminder notifications
- Sounds
Also check that your calendar meetings actually have a reminder set (for example, 15 minutes before the meeting).
✅ Step 5: Make Notifications More Visible
In Windows: Settings → System → Notifications → Set Priority Notifications
Add:
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Teams
This helps important meeting reminders appear above other notifications.
Still Having Problems?
If you’ve worked through these steps and reminders still aren’t appearing, you may need to:
- Restart Teams and Outlook
- Check for Windows or Microsoft 365 updates
- Contact your organisation’s IT support
