What is the Community Digital Skills Network?
The Community Digital Skills Network (CDSN) is a group comprising representatives from South Birmingham-based charity Northfield Community Partnership and key organisations from across the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector who make up Birmingham’s diverse communities. All members of the group are working to address digital inclusion and increase digital skills in communities in the Birmingham area and wider, from delivering training and refurbishing devices to getting devices to those who need them.
Our aims
We meet at least four times a year (either in-person or online) to work together on the following:
- Share information and best practices to enable, produce, and share effective communications and joint-marketing initiatives
- Work in partnership and bring co-ordination and learning between organisations
- Share learning and good practices on issues related to addressing digital inclusion and increasing digital skills in our communities
- Explore locality based solutions to address gaps in access, including disability friendly access, and skills training
- Explore cross project opportunities
- Support members to meet local needs, utilising data insights to focus us on what matters most
- Identify ways in which to involve the whole community and gather the views of as many groups and organisations in the community as possible in relation to addressing digital inclusion and increase digital skills in our communities
- Support members to plan and deliver projects and initiatives that are identified by the community to ensure they meet local community needs
- Look at and explore opportunities to access funding in partnership to address digital inclusion and increase digital skills in our communities in Birmingham
In addition to the meetings, we also have regular exchanges and peer support on our WhatsApp group and occasionally via email.
